Spry for Android

Help and questions

Tap a question to see the answer. Everything below is in Spry’s Settings tab, the last tab at the bottom of the screen.

Sound and text

How do I turn the sound down or off?

Open Settings › Sound and touch. Tap the minus button, or tap the left end of the volume bar, until it reads “0 of 10”. The sound is then off. Tap the plus button to bring it back.

To stop the gentle buzz when you press, turn off Haptics just below.

How do I make the text bigger?

Open Settings › Text and colours and choose Extra large under Text size. Every screen changes at once. The game boards keep their size, and the words and buttons around them grow.

Can I have a dark screen?

Yes. In Settings › Text and colours, under Light or dark, choose Dark. Match my phone follows your phone’s own setting.

Playing

How do I pause a game?

Tap Pause at the top left of the game. You can then carry on, see how to play, or stop the game. Your phone’s Back button pauses the game too.

A game feels too hard, or too easy

Each game adjusts as you play: it moves up a level after a round that goes well and eases off after one that doesn’t, so it soon settles at a level that suits you. There is no time limit. Quick answers can earn bonus points, but you can always take your time.

Light Trail has Show me again if you missed the order, Odd One Out has Show me where, and Word Builder has hints, and you can tap Done whenever you like.

What is the Spry Score?

Each skill area, such as memory or maths, gets a score from 0 to 100 from your last five games in that area. The Spry Score brings them together, from 0 to 1,000. It is there to help you see your own progress over time. It is not a measure of intelligence or health.

Is Spry a medical or memory test?

No. Spry is a game, made for fun and practice. It is not a medical device, and it cannot diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If you are worried about your memory, please talk to your doctor.

Your progress

How do I reset my progress and start again?

Open Settings › Your progress and tap Reset progress. Spry tells you exactly what will be deleted and asks you to confirm with Reset everything. Your name and settings are kept. This cannot be undone.

If you only want the games to find a new starting level, tap Retake the check instead. Your scores are kept.

Will I lose my progress if I get a new phone?

Your progress is stored on your phone. If your phone backs up its apps to your Google account (most do), Android includes Spry. When you set up your new phone from that backup and install Spry again, your progress comes back. You can check this in your phone’s settings, usually under System › Backup or Google › Backup.

Why does Spry ask for my age group?

Only for the optional comparison with people of a similar age, which you can turn on or off in Settings › Age group. Your age group stays on your phone. You can choose Prefer not to say, and everything else in Spry works the same.

Do I need the internet? Is there an account?

No and no. Spry works offline, and there is nothing to sign up for. Your progress never leaves your phone, apart from your phone’s own backup. See our privacy policy.

Does Spry have ads, or cost anything?

Spry has no ads, and never will. In this test version everything is free. A later version will offer an optional subscription, Spry Premium, through Google Play, and we will explain plainly what it includes before you decide.

Once you have a subscription, you can cancel it at any time: open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions.
